With the release of Football Manager 2007 comes another ZombieNexus Football Manager Challenge. Last season's challenge was quite fun but unfortunatly didn't get very far since myself and Gragoyle tried to keep in sync with each other which failed due to real life stuff. Also, we probably ended up writing far too much about our exploits in the various forum threads.

So this time we shall only note down the important highlights of the games and also not worry about keeping in sync so much, just ensuing to highlight which season we achieved things in etc. This is mainly a challenge between myself and Gragoyle but any others are free to join in Smile

Last season, Gragoyle chose Nuneaton Borough for the club to manage and so this time it is my turn to suggest the team. Fisher Athletic were chosen because they have just been promoted to the English Conference South, and have been predicted to finish 22nd in the league, they have very basic training and youth facilities and only 400 seats in their 5,300 capactity stadium. Thus they should prove a very tough challenge to take them anywhere. Also, they're a London team Smile

How far can you take the mighty Fisher Athletic?

Rules for setting up the game:

  1. In the preferences, disable the Harchester patch and data file
  2. Start new game and click advanced to skip the wizard
  3. Add England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and N.Ireland as playable leagues (select lowest league from each)
  4. Add Czech Republic, Portugal, Belgium as view only leagues (select lowest league from each)
  5. Add all players from England, Scotland, Ireland, N.Ireland and Wales
  6. Database size = Large (huge no longer exists)
  7. Use real player names = yes
  8. Use attribute masking = yes
  9. Start game

Next set up your manager as you see fit but ensuring you select the following:

  1. Team to manage = Fisher Athletic
  2. Past Experience = Automatic (according to the manual, this equates to no football experience)
  3. Start unemployed = off

Game on!

Edited: 24th October

Heh! Might be in for a tough first season. Just finished my friendlies and the only team I beat were my own reserves and even then they dominated for the first third of the game Wink

Yeah but friendlies dont count for much really, in a weird way I dont mind losing friendlies because I would much rather my players (especially form players like strikers) peak during the start of the season.

LOL! I cant believe you have played all your friendlies already!!

Yup, and to prove it I am now top of the league after being unbeaten in my first 6 games Tounge I'm sure that won't continue but it makes for a good start anyway.

I have played a few games because I wasn't going to do the usual tactic of replaceing the whole squad straight away and spending hours trawling through the available players.

Had to bring in some new coaches - although the board blocked my attempts to sign the 7th saying I had far too many Sad I had 6 friendlies lined up and used them to gain match fitness and identify 2 positions that I thought was very weak and three that needed more cover. I did end up buying one guy for nothing, signing 7 trialists and getting one on loan. Out of those, only three are definite first teamers, three are rotation players and the others went straight in the reserves. So I guess i've not made as many waves as I usually do resulting in the team not requiring too long to gel Smile

OK. Because we found that the initial setup was a bit sparce with available lower-league players I have adjusted the rules for the challenge. It does mean I have to start again but since it crashed everytime then I guess I couldn't continue anyway Tounge

Game On (pt2)! Very Happy
